Russell graduated from University of London (External Programme) with an LL.B. (Hons) Degree in 1995. He obtained his Certificate of Legal Practice from the Malaysian Qualifying Board in 1996. Russell did his pupillage with Mr. Tan Seng Kee in Lee, Perara & Tan and was retained as a legal assistant upon his admission as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.
Whilst chambering under Mr. Tan Seng Kee (previous partner of Lee, Perara & Tan), and thereafter Russell practices in the areas of corporate and securities law, in particular to mergers and acquisitions, capital market and corporate finance transactions. Russell has also advised leading investment banks on various transactions involving issuance of debt securities and equity linked securities. Russell has also advised clients and investment banks on issues arising from regulatory authorities such as Bursa Securities Malaysia Berhad and the Securities Commission.
Russell has experience in drafting of information memorandum in relation to the issuance of private debt securities, drafting of joint venture agreements, share sale agreements and other commercial agreements.
Russell has also been involved in stamp duty exemption applications under Section 15 and 15A of the Stamp Act 1949 and sale and purchase of landed properties.
